This article covers how to use the insight editor to create a new insight, give it a name and description, and choose the method. The methods determine how the insights are calculated.
Make sure you understand the basics of Health and Insights before learning to edit insights.
This article covers the following sections:
- Add an insight
- Name and Description
- Choosing an insight method
- Predefined
- Manual
- Threshold
- Difference
- Ratio
- Difference Ratio
If you make changes to your Insight configuration, Amity will automatically regenerate Insights for all accounts after a one-minute delay.
Add an insight
- Navigate to the Settings app.
- Click Insights under the Automation tab.
- Click the grey plus button on the top right to bring up the Add Insight page.
- Fill out the fields and click Create in the top right.
Name and Description
Give your new insight a name that will be easily understood by the people on your team—not something identifiable only by you.
When you create a new insight, the description is what will help others understand the insight, so specifics (such as exact number of days) are helpful. This description will also appear on the profile page of an account under its Health.
Below are some examples of names and descriptions:
- Low Activity: There has been no activity in this account for over 10 days.
- No Engagement: The account has not been engaged in over 30 days.
Choosing an insight method
There are 6 different methods with which you can create an insight. Below are descriptions of each method with examples.
Predefined
Amity has predefined methods that are ready built for you, such as "expiring soon" or "no activity". To use one of these, click one from the property dropdown menu and fill in the blank fields.
For example, if you want to know when an account has had no activity for over 10 days, you can choose "Activity - No Activity" from the property menu and set days since as "10". The operator will automatically be set to "greater than" (which you cannot change).
Click Create in the top right to save.
Manual
This method allows you to create your own insights that relate to properties Amity cannot calculate, such as employee resignations, budget changes, etc.
The only fields you will need to fill in are the name and description. There are no properties or metrics that will correspond to this insight.
Threshold
This method can produce an insight for when a property is less than, more than, or equal to a value.
For example, let's say you have an account with an MRR value that is steadily increasing, so you want to keep an eye on it for an up-sell opportunity. You want their health to change when their MRR is more than $1500. To track this, you can create an insight called "Upsell Opportunity".
Choose "MRR" from the property menu, choose "greater than" for the operator, and type "1500" for the value.
Click Create in the top right to save.
Difference
This method can produce an insight when the subtraction of two properties is less than, more than, or equal to a value. The Difference method is very useful for producing absolute values.
For example, you sold 10 licenses to all basic-level accounts, but you know some of them are overusing their capacity.
You can use "Licenses used" and "Licenses purchased" as property 1 and 2, respectively, for the subtraction process. To know when accounts are using more than 10 licenses, select the operator "greater than" and make the value "1".
Click Create in the top right to save.
How will this look in reality? If an account is using 13 licenses but purchased 10, the difference is 3. As this is "greater than 1", the account health will change accordingly (depending on the health settings of this insight).
Ratio
This method can produce an insight that generates when the division of two properties is less than, more than, or equal to a value. The Ratio method is very useful for producing percentage values.
The last example can be applied to the ratio method, as well, if you want to calculate the rate at which the licenses are being overused.
Difference Ratio
This method can produce an insight that generates when the difference of two properties divided by a third property is less than, more than, or equal to a value. The Difference Ratio method is very useful for showing trends.
For example, you may want to track when the number of visitors to your website each week increases. You can generate an insight to alert you if the number of visitors has risen by 30%.
First, you must make custom properties for these metrics. Next, when adding the insight, choose "Visits this week" for property 1 and "Visits last week" for both property 2 and 3. To know when site visits increase by 30%, select the operator "greater than" and make the value "0.3".
Click Create in the top right to save.
